MAKING AN OFFICIAL TRAILER FOR MY SHORT FILM ✂️

Hi, quick WLDWLF update here! I’m still fully busy every day of the week working on Masters of the Air, so the in-development WLDWLF projects like the HOWIE! Finale have been put on temporary hold until the bigger show wraps Post-Production. I regret that that’s the case, but I’m getting amazing experience in the field making big-budget T.V. for now as a trade off…

That being said, I do get a little time here and there to fiddle with small interesting projects! One such project was an Official Trailer for our recent short film, SLEIGHT DISTURBANCE, which is currently being reviewed in consideration for 8 Film Festivals!

This assignment actually came from my friend Ethan Soo, who hosted a screening to celebrate the distribution of his own project, Swept Under, which I Co-Production-Designed. Ethan was nice enough to ask a couple of his filmmaking peers if we had trailers for our short films that he could screen before his main event. At that point, I had not made a legit trailer for S.D. because I didn’t know what I could show without spoiling it. However, an opportunity to see a teaser for my film in a Theater was too cool to pass up, so I got to work.

Immediately, I realized that I could actually get away with showing whatever I wanted from the film without “ruining” it, if I just edited it in a rapid way that was comedically devoid of all context. Within the imposed limit of 30 seconds, I simply tried to build some intriguing sensory overload while packing in a few tense frames from all of the coolest imagery in the film.

For the music, I faded together different sections of our original score to create a new piece that constantly rises in intensity for 30 seconds with one final held-out note. Then I chopped up some of the sound design layers from the film to re-sound-design this teaser from the ground up, making it as punchy as I could.

Alas, I ended up with THIS, the Official Nonsensical Trailer for SLEIGHT DISTURBANCE :)

Besides that, I honestly don’t have much more to report for now. Once we know the results of our Festival Campaign I will certainly share them here! In the meantime, you can find me most Thursday-Sunday nights on my live-streaming YouTube channel, THE MIDNIGHT RANGOON where we do a variety of fun things LIVE in real-time. There’s over 200 hours of content!!

Well… even if you don’t check that out, thanks for reading, and we’ll see you in the next one.

P.S. Just know that I will not rest until the story of HOWIE! is complete. We won’t abandon it. Stay tuned.
